Danke,
Arch Duke Maxyenko

Well that's a bit harsh yeah? Is the cooling on the 328i really THAT bad?

Have you gotten a metal impeller water pump yet?
![]() 01/09/2014 at 18:57 |

Yes, just replaced the one that was in there as it had gone bad. I was burping the system after replacing it today.

Just for fun, let's see what google translate makes of this.
Vi hadde gått langt, og lenger enn langt. Men så plutselig så vi en oase, en oase med vann og hamburgere. Vi er reddet tenkte vi. Så oppdaget vi at stedet var drevet av en klovn, og hans navn var Ronald.

Type text or a website address or translate a document.
We had gone far, and farther than far. But then suddenly we saw an oasis, an oasis with water and burgers. We are saved we thought. Then we discovered that the place was run by a clown, and his name was Ronald

Heee :D My rusty German seems to yet again stay the test of time! Enough to come from this story wincing, anyway...

Funny, I bought the composite one and it's been working fine. I heard that they really improved the composites after 1998.

The new composites seem nice, but there weren't any available. And the composites are different than plastic, which suck. You seem to need Oppoship, I'll fetch you a mod.

Interesting. I believed I got mine from Turner as a part of a cooling system overhaul kit after my plastic one disintegrated. If you went aftermarket (not sure if BMW sells metal pumps) then I believe the Stewart one flows something like 30% better than OEM.
Also, thanks! It'd be nice to be out of the grey.

You're out of the grey and can post on Oppo. Also I'm not sure what pump I had installed but I upgraded my water pump to a metal impeller design as soon as I got my E46.

I am now having flashbacks to when my Landy kept overheating randomly and it turned out that some dunce had installed a plastic impeller water pump on it in rebuild. HATE.

I got a metal one from NAPA today, some European brand.

Thank you! I think the stock E46 pump is usually good enough since it uses the new design. BMW had some silly ideas about being environmentally conscious in at early 90's- thus grey bumpers and side skirts on early E36s and crappy plastic water pumps.
Supposedly the grey bumper was so you could easily replace it with the bumper from any other e36 in case you were in an accident. They're actually painted the colour of the car underneath the grey coating.

Pfft. At this point, I just expect components to die on my car. Just might as well put away some money for the next part I need to buy. Wouldn't that be nice.

Germany as whole had some wacky environmental ideas back then lol
